The Micro Bikini trend and Crochet bikinis

As the weather warms, we look towards the new season swimwear trends (and wonder what we will be wearing on tropical holidays when that day finally comes).

It seems Karens reprimanding girls on the beach about the ‘decency’ of their swimwear are going to have a field day this summer if Instagram is anything to go by. Because boy oh boy, it seems bikinis have gotten even smaller.

Singer Dua Lipa, 25, posed poolside on Instagram last Tuesday, wearing an impossibly tiny GCDS bikini. The barely-there crochet cups were stitched with a marijuana leaf and a daisy.

Made with appliques and a very small round crochet piece underneath it this micro bikini is already out of stock!

The thong bottom of Lipa’s sold-out suit was adorned with a rainbow in front, and a heart in the back. At the time of writing the image had racked up almost 6 million likes.

Last week fashion writers at Who What Wear warned people that the new wave of bikini styles are “so minimal they’re shocking”.

So here are the trends:

1. Floss straps:

This can easily be made in crochet, just by making longer straps for the top or adding one more strap on the bottom! This pattern is very simple and long straps can be added to wrap it around the body! Jamaica Crochet Bikini Pattern

2. Loincloth bottoms:

I have a tutorial on my youtube channel where I teach you step by step how to make this bikini by Frankies Bikinis, here:

3. Ultra high-cut

4. Cutout bandeau

The great thing about bandeau bikini tops was they protected your cleavage that could burn easily. Enter the cutout bandeau to ruin all benefits. Here is a pattern with crochet and lycra for this bikini! Boho Crochet Bikini Pattern

5. Micro-thong bottoms

They are easy and fast to make in crochet, any of my patterns can be made as a thong if you reduce the number of stitches on the back of the patterns! Check them here: Crochet Bikini Pattern Bundle Bali or subscribe to my channel here:

Hope you enjoy your reading and have a great micro bikini idea in your mind for the next summer 🙂
